Excellent bed and breakfast! Terrific service, homemade cookies, outstanding banana-stuffed
French toast and baked omelet. Wonderful advice on dining and daily excursions. Very
kind and welcoming atmosphere. We have already made recommendations for our family and
friends to stay here. Overall exceptional! |
- Mark & Sri, Indianapolis |

You have taken Hampton B&B's to a new level. Exquisite attention to details!
Enjoyed spending my "big" birthday with you. It's awfully nice to be pampered!
Thanks again! |
- Betty & Art, PA |

Thank you for a special weekend. Your personal touch separated A Butler's Manor from a
hotel experience. The food and garden and lovely china made for a wonderful stay. We
hope to return soon! |
- Laurie & Roland, Atlanta, GA |

You made our stay very enjoyable with your attentiveness to the smallest details. Thank you for
your directions to the Hampton Classic, and about town. We loved Southampton and Sag Harbor and
your home. You are special people and we are looking forward to coming back. |
- Kim & Jim, CT |

Our daughter and son-in-law raved about this place, and justifiably so! We enjoyed our stay in
your delightful B&B. |
- Ginny & Jack, St. James, LI, NY |

Staying here while working feels much like skipping school when I was younger. Thank you for
your delightful warmth and exquisite accommodations. |
- Chris, Tampa, FL |

You two are definitely in the right line of work - though you do it so well it must not feel like
work - we can tell how much you love what you do and thanks for reflecting such a gracious warm
feeling to us! |
- Paige & Paul, Madison, WI |

Thanks you for a most delightful stay! This was our first time in the Hamptons, and hopefully
not our last. Your hospitality has been so wonderful. The food, and the very
interesting stories have made our stay most memorable! |
- Scott & Kirsty, Sydney, Australia |

Our first visit to Long Island and the Hamptons was so enjoyable and was made more so by your
great hospitality. Our visit to Wolffer Vineyards was interesting, as were the villages of
East Hampton, Southampton, and Montauk. We love your garden and the great breakfasts! |

For some, the chief attraction of our beautiful area is our pristine ocean and bay beaches; for others,
it's wandering our quaint villages. Whether you've never been to the East End or are a frequent
visitor, here are some links and information to some of many activities. |

 tinerary

Developed because Kim and Chris found that this was what we took our out-of-state
families to see when they came to visit, our itinerary is an informal, 3-page tour of the East
End from Southampton Village to Montauk Point to Sag Harbor.

Touring the Hamptons from A Butler's Manor:

Turn left out of the driveway onto North Main Street, go about 1/4 mile to the stop sign,
turn left and continue into the village of Southampton. The main shopping streets
are Main Street and Job's Lane.
| |
Fun to wander through: Hildreth's
Department Store - the first department store in the United States. No clothing,
but lots of housewares and gifts. |
| |
Good places for antiquing: Thrift shops (two on Main
Street, one on Nugent Street) and consignment shops (Colette's on Main Street, and
another in the car park behind Hampton Road). |
| |
Good lunch choices: Silver's (on Main Street),
Le Chef (on Job's Lane).
More casual lunch: the Driver's Seat (Job's Lane),
Southampton Publick House (Bowden Square)
and Barrister's (Main Street). All are good for hamburgers, sandwiches, &
pasta dishes. Two choices for a grab-and-go sandwich are The Golden Pear on Main
Street and Job's Lane Deli on Job's Lane. |
|
| |
Of interest: Take a drive through the estate district: Continue on Job's
Lane to the stoplight (Agawam Park is on your left.) The street becomes Hill Street.
Continue past the movie theatre and take the first left turn (First Neck Lane.) Wind your
way through the streets south of Hill Street towards the ocean (First Neck...Captain's Neck...
Ox Pasture...Great Plains...)

On the corner of Meadow and First Neck Lanes: The huge property behind the hedges is the
(very private!) Meadow Club. 36 grass tennis courts - more than Wimbledon!

Drive Meadow Lane to the end and back. Of particular interest: Dragon's Head/Elysium,
former names of a hodgepodge oceanfront castle, purchased in 2004 by Calvin Klein for almost
$30 million. (Clue: It has turrets.)

 estaurants

The villages that comprise "The Hamptons" are fortunate to have a fine variety of good
restaurants, some within walking distance of A Butler's Manor, running the gamut of very casual
to fine dining. Kim and Chris take the testing of our local restaurants very seriously and
try to eat out as often as possible to stay current with menu selections and new openings.
A full binder of local menus is available for perusal in our living room, but here is a sample of
places we most often recommend.

|
 |
|
| SOUTHAMPTON - Water Mill |
| |
Plaza Café - 631-283-9323
Zagat & Wine Spectator Awards winner. Seafood, fresh local fare, boutique American
wines in a classy, Tuscan-inspired atmosphere. |
| |
Tuscan House - 631-287-8703
Great Italian food (and large portions of it!) |
| |
Le Chef - 631-283-8581
French-inspired, known for its fairly-priced year-round Prix Fixe menu. |
| |
MUSE Restaurant & Aquatic Lounge - 631-726-2606
(Located 2.7 miles away in Water Mill)
A focal point in the lounge and bar area is the 100-gallon salt-water fish tank that
serves as the bar top. Behind the bar, a water wall and candle-lit chandelier
adds to the ambiance. Very creative menu with lots of things we bet you've never
tried before :-) |
|
| SAG HARBOR / NOYAC |
| |
American Hotel - 631-725-3535
Elegant dining with a 5-star wine list. If you're in the mood for caviar,
this is the place! Reservations essential. |
| |
Oasis - 631-725-7110
Seafood. Elegant dining room overlooking a marina in Noyac |
| |
B. Smith's - 631-725-5858
(summer only)
Seafood with a Southern flair, on the waterfront in Sag Harbor. Large patio for
outdoor dining; great sunsets. |

| BRIDGEHAMPTON |
| |
Bobby Van's - 631-537-0590
Known for its steaks! The dining room is light and airy and the whole front facade
folds open in summer, offering excellent people-watching and fresh air. |

| WAINSCOTT |
| |
Almoncello - 631-329-6700
Upscale Italian restaurant with a good crowded bar. |
| |
Saracen - 631-537-6255
The Italian menu, with its emphasis on seafood, is imaginative without being
bizarre. There is a popular bar scene and the music can be loud. |

| EAST HAMPTON |
| |
Della Femina - 631-329-6666
Exceptional food. The menu is described as high-end New American and Hamptons
Nouvelle, and reservations are essential (and often difficult to get in season.) |
| |
Café Max - 631-324-2004
Wine Specatator and Zagat Award winner. Fresh local seafood, including the best
bay scallops to be had (in season.) A favorite of locals and summer residents
for over 15 years. |
| |
Bostwick's - 631-324-1111
(summer only)
Fabulous sunsets and fresh seafood from the second floor deck overlooking Three Mile
Harbor. No reservations; popular with locals and summer visitors alike, so
expect to wait at the congenial bar. |
| |
Bamboo - 631-329-9821
Bamboo, with its crisp black and copper sushi bar and soothing bamboo-decorated dining room,
offers a ful sushi bar plus a restaurant menu with an Asian fusion influence and a year-round
prix fixe menu option. Expect a fairly riotous bar scene late at night on weekends. |

 each Information

 |
|
Regardless of who owns the spectacular house in front of it, the ocean beaches are open to the
public...but parking at them varies. In Southampton village, Cooper's Beach is our
large, beautiful public beach, complete with a pavilion that sells food, rents umbrellas and other
beach equipment, and has bathrooms and showers. Parking during the summer season runs about
$30 per carload per day. There are two "free" beaches, one at either end of the village, where
the 50 or so parking spaces are filled on a first-come, first served basis. The remainder of
the beachfront is accessible by bicycle or by foot - the limited parking at these beaches requires
a Resident Permit.

For this reason, Kim and Chris offer our guests complimentary shuttle service to and from our
village beaches. Just ask! |
