Providing a gracious alternative to hotels on Long Island, our 1860 Colonial home embodies many of the features of classic Hamptons architecture…shingles, shutters, exposed beams…while sacrificing nothing to modern needs. Our historic accommodations feature luxury amenities such as open spaces, updated private baths, energy-efficient windows (and of course, high-speed wireless Internet). Kick back in a cozy reclining wingback chair in the comfortable living room…peruse a book from our library before a fireplace laid with a crackling wood fire on chilly evenings…tickle the ivories of our antique player piano…or just enjoy the calm of our common rooms. While not original to the house (only 50 years old), one of the most remarked-upon features of our Southampton, NY inn is the reclaimed brick that covers the whole of our ground floor. At A Butler’s Manor, you’ll find the grace of the past matched by the comforts of today.

Your Hamptons hosts, owners Christopher and Kimberly Allen, warmly welcome you to our Southampton bed and breakfast inn. A Butler’s Manor takes its name from Chris’s profession. A proper British butler for more than 20 years, Chris ran estates in both Europe and America before “retiring” to welcome guests to our luxurious bed and breakfast. The personal service that is the hallmark of his profession, along with Kim’s attention to detail, will make your stay at A Butler’s Manor an experience in hospitality you won’t soon forget.

In opening A Butler’s Manor, Chris and Kim fulfilled a lifelong dream, utilizing their combined hospitality skills to make guests welcome and comfortable. In addition to Chris’s years in private service and a jointly held love of entertaining, they owned a catering company in California and freelanced in catering for nine years before launching A Butler’s Manor in early 2002.

British-born Chris worked on estates in Europe before moving to California in 1985 as a majordomo for a property in Laguna Beach. He met Kim while playing darts in an Irish pub and they married in 1988. They moved to the East End in early 1992 when Chris accepted a position managing an estate in East Hampton. In his spare time, Chris loves gardening, woodworking, and learning new skills, from computers to composting.

Kim, a native Californian, is a writer and the author of five published books, including a memoir about Chris’s life in service (“A Butler’s Life”), a contemporary novel (“Choice”), two psychological suspense novels (“Net Stalker” and “Blood Exposure”), and a book about wedding customs (“Wedding Wonders”). After repeated requests from friends and Manor guests, Kim also published “A Butler’s Manor: The Cookbook,” which can be purchased at the Manor. She loves creativity in any form, especially cooking and home décor, and is generally plotting either a change-up of one of our spaces or the storyline of a new book.

You may spot Sydney, our Toller-mix dog, patrolling the backyard to rid Chris’s garden of bunnies and squirrels (she’s losing the battle). When she’s not galloping around the property, Sydney is shy and is generally to be found asleep in our quarters or private office. Should you wish to meet her, just ask — we have treats on hand to aid in introductions!

English Garden

Our garden gate opens onto a mature English Garden, designed for color, fragrance, texture and visual interest, which Chris has curated and cultivated (it must be in his British blood!). From the hellebores and crocus of early Spring through the prolific roses and hydrangeas of midsummer to the late dahlias, mums, and wood anemone of late Autumn, A Butler’s Manor’s garden is a treat for the senses and a true gardener’s delight!

During clement months, we offer our full gourmet breakfast in Chris’s magnificent English garden. Stroll through the grounds, taking in the beautifully landscaped rose, vegetable, and border gardens. Check your email with free Wi-Fi under the shade of our magnificent 150-year old Sycamore Maple tree on balmy summer afternoons. Or simply unwind and watch the butterflies dance among the flowers and the birds frolic in the fountain.

Swimming Pool

Yes, our Southampton beaches are top-rated. But sometimes you’d rather have a sand-free, crowd-free space to enjoy a refreshing dip. Our sparkling, full-sized private saltwater pool offers the perfect contrast to a busy day at the ocean. Soak up the sun, paddle with a pool noodle, or simply savor the peaceful ambiance on a lounge chair on the pool deck, listening to the rustle of leaves on the surrounding trees and the sound of birdsong. It’s your summer oasis!
